Two still lifes

Here are two still lifes I painted recently. I enjoy painting still lifes. The objects themselves may not be the most interesting subject, but they still offer plenty to think about. Where should the objects be placed in the image? What are the colors I’m seeing and how to recreate them? What is interesting about the relationship of the objects to one another and the surrounding space? It’s also nice that except for changing light (which can be pretty drastic) everything pretty much stays put.
